Dorper / St Croix (The whites)
advantages
• Low Maintenance - no shearing, crutching - not susceptible to flystrike ( no wool ) - little to no trouble with grass seed contamination in carcass - decreased susceptibility to internal and external parasites.
• Breeding Habits - Rams high in libido - High fertility and fecundity - continuous breeding season ( ewes can lamb 3 times in 2 years) - strong mothering and protective instincts - great milk production over a long period of time - small vigourous lambs at birth so reduced lambing problems
• Feed Utilisation and Growth - Early maturing lambs that can be ready for market at 12 weeks at around 85# - excellent carcass with a dressing percentage of close to 60%

Versatility
A very hardy and adaptable breed that performs well in all areas but particularly those of a more arid nature
They are a non selective grazer and crave a more fibrous diet- an even temper with an eager inquisitiveness
High quality hides that are prized in Europe and South Africa
Suited to the ‘organics’ industry particularly if run in pastoral areas ( no dipping, drenching etc ) we are currently realizing the benefits of using White Dorpers for weed control which is minimizing chemical use
Good feed converters
